Apple Computers released the PowerBook 160 in October 1992 alongside the PowerBook 145 and PowerBook 180. Its case design is the same as that of the PowerBook 180, but it had a 25 MHz Motorola 68030 CPU and no FPU identical to the lower-end 145. However, the PowerBook 160’s 9.8 inch passive matrix LCD screen was for the first time capable of displaying 4-bit gray-scale. The 160 and the 180 were the first PowerBooks to add an external color video port and to increase RAM to a maximum of 14 MB. Both PowerBooks introduced a new power saving feature which allowed their processors to run at a slower 16 MHz rate.This PowerBook was considered the mid-range portable laptop between the two. The PowerBook line was designed for the professional market, and received numerous awards before 1994 when it was discontinued.
